Are You Drinking this Daily Yet?

iced+green+teaI’m going to let you in on a big diet secret of mine! This is something I typically do in the summer time.  I completely forgot about this until my girlfriend came over the other day with her big Venti Iced Green Tea from Starbucks! She turned me onto this years ago, and since I don’t drink it year round, only in the warm weather, I completely FORGOT about it and how effective it is. Because of its appetite suppressing properties, she calls this her “liquid crack” (pardon the vulgar terminology, but I’m just trying to get the point across). This really works! Go to Starbucks sometime this afternooon and get one and try it. It’s a great pick-me-up in the afternoon, yet it doesn’t have nearly as much caffeine as coffee.  After drinking one, I can still sleep at night, and believe me, I am very sensitive to caffeine when it comes to my sleep. Most importantly, you’ll notice how it decreases your appetite and that you do end up eating less in the pm when you have your green tea!  Make sure you request it unsweetened and bring along some stevia packets (I use 2 in mine). 
How does it work? The polyphenols and caffeine found in green tea extract increases thermogenesis and stimulates fat oxidation, boosting the metabolic rate 4% without increasing heart rate. Another side benefit is that it’s loaded with flavonoids even more so than fresh fruits, vegetable juices or wine which work as antioxidants, fighting free-radical damage in our systems. Also, it helps reduce the risk of cancer.  Some studies show that it also decreases your risk of developing heart disease.  So drink up!
